A niche chapel surrounded by a low wall on the road from Palvinov (Hartmanice) to Mouřenec (Annín) is a memory of the battles of Austrian and Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War.

Swedish mercenaries (around 1632) walked through Šumava and plundered villages. They also ransacked the nearby Hartman church.

According to legend, imperial Catholic (Austrian) and Protestant (Swedish) troops clashed in a bloody battle in the valley between Mouřenec and Palvinov. Catholics could be buried near the church in Mouřenec, Swedish Protestants were buried in a common grave less than a kilometer from the church.

How many Swedish soldiers are laid to rest here is unknown. They could have been soldiers from one of King Gustavus Adolphus' armed units, who pursued the Habsburg warlord Tilly to Bavaria.

Allegedly, after the cemetery was abolished during the Josephine reforms, the remains of the soldiers were placed in the Moureneč ossuary, so the bones of former opponents rest in the same place.

How will we get there:

The chapel stands on the road from Palvinov near Hartmantic to Mouřenec and Annín. You can park on the outskirts of Palvinov. We travel along a mountain ridge with a beautiful view of the aforementioned valley and the panorama of the border mountains.

Another legend:

There is another legend related to the place: Zdeněk Krajdl told us using Facebook: In the former school in Mouřenec, in the days when it was the Tourist Base of the Regional House of Pioneers and Youth in Pilsen, another story hung in the dining room, related to this mysterious place, which it was called "For ice cream"...

One winter day, a teacher from the Mourenec school left two siblings from Palvínov, who went to this school, after school. He let the children home almost at dusk. The children went home and while they were in this place, a snow storm came and both children froze to death. The teacher then hanged himself on the school grounds and a chapel was built there in memory of the children.
