Route length: 23.5 km (or 18.5 km)
The farm trail leads for the most part through the quiet area of the Kochánov Nature Park. The official starting point of the more than 20-kilometer Pošumaví route is Petrovice u Sušice, 7 kilometers from Sušice. However, we can start/end our journey in any of the places on the trail.
The trail route leads through the following places:
Petrovice, Dolní Kochánov, Horní Kochánov, Keply, Stará Huť (the road more or less climbs).
Radkov, Mochov, Hořejší Těšov, Dolejší Těšov, Vlastějov, Vojetice, Petrovice (the road more or less descends)
An outdoor information system with the Farm Trail logo will help you while wandering through the countryside.
A substantial part of the trail leads through an area where agriculture is practiced by a number of farms, which allow you to get to know the current form of agriculture, following on from traditional earlier forms.
Along the way you can see, for example, "wolf pits", death boards, a number of well-preserved buildings of folk architecture, state-protected larch trees of respectable dimensions, wonderful views of the picturesque surroundings of Šumava...
Wolf pits are the remains of up to 4 m deep and bricked wolf traps that local farmers built in the 18th and 19th centuries along animal trails.
If we leave Petrovice and follow the route in the recommended direction, the first half of the time we climb (Petrovice 556 m above sea level – Keply 964 m above sea level) and the second half we more or less descend.
Tip: a small part of the route leads along the relatively busy road Keply - Stará Huť. Be very careful here or skip this part. After Horní Kochánov, you can turn onto the green hiking trail in the direction of Radkovská vyhlídka. This will shorten the route by approx. 4 km.
